Girl doused with acid in Lahore
LAHORE (92 News) – A young girl was doused with acid in Defense area of the provincial capital on Wednesday.
According to police, a man namely Ismat doused acid on his fiancé.
Initial investigation reveals that the girl was attacked over personal grudge after she refused to marry her fiancé Ismat soon.
The victim was shifted to Mayo Hospital for medical treatment as the victim sustained 30 percent burns on her body.
Police have lodged a case against the accused under terrorism act and conducting raids for the arrest of the accused.
Acid attacks are common in Pakistan with scores of such assaults taking place each year. Victims are left with horrendous injuries and are often blinded.
Acid attacks, which disfigure and often blind their overwhelmingly female victims, have long been used to settle personal or family scores in Pakistan, with hundreds of cases reported each year.
The attacks fit a wider pattern of eroding women’s rights in the country.
