16 die as heavy monsoon rains inundate roads & streets in Karachi

KARACHI (92 News) – As many as 16 people were killed while several others injured as heavy monsoon rains lashed the city on Thursday, inundating roads and streets.

Eleven people were electrocuted in different incidents, while five died in the wall collapse incidents and drowning.

After the rain, Gujjar Nullah was in flood and water entered nearby roads. The Sindh Assembly building is presenting a pond-like look. Severe traffic jam was witnessed on roads.

Knee-deep water forced the people to stay at home in Gulshan Shamim area. In addition, life came to a standstill in Malir, Orangi, Guddap, New Karachi, Sarjani, Baldia Town, Manghu Pir, Gulshan Hadeed, Landhi, Quaidabad, Nazimabad and Safoora.

Super Highway submerged due to a crevice in Thado Dam. The floodwater is now heading towards residential areas.

Roads were blocked due to felling of trees in several areas, while dozens of feeders tripped after the rain.
