7.1 magnitude earthquake jolts Pakistan, 15 injured
LAHORE (92 News) – At least 15 people were injured on Sunday a strong 7.1 magnitude earthquake was jolts parts of Pakistan.
The epicenter of the earthquake was reported to be in the mountainous area of Afghanistan Hindu Kush region at a depth of 236 km.
This came months after more than 300 people were killed by a quake in the same mountainous region.
Tremors were also felt as far away as New Delhi, Afghanistan. The quake was also felt in the Kashmir region.
Tremors were felt in Murree, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gilgit-Baltistan, Abbottabad, Mansehra and surrounding areas. According to a foreign media agency, tremors were also felt in the Indian capital, Kashmir and Afghanistan.
Phone and electricity lines were disrupted following the earthquake across KP, while an emergency has been declared at all hospitals.
Roads were closed for traffic due to landsliding and telephone and electricity transmission systems were disrupted.
Metro service has been suspended in New Delhi following the strong earthquake.
Owing to the geographical anatomy, the region has been highly susceptible to mild magnitude earthquakes in the past, which often find their place in the schedule.
The tectonic plates in the region often find huge interstices which makes the region more vulnerable to shakes.
