ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Additional Sessions Judge Atta Rabbani reserved a verdict on an application seeking a case against Pakistan-based US national Cynthia D Ritchie who had leveled rape charges against PPP leader Rehman Malik. The court will pronounce the reserved verdict on June 15. On June 12, the Islamabad police had refused to register a case against US blogger Cynthia D Ritchie, citing that it was a cybercrime case and fell under the Federal Investigation Agency. Petitioner Waqas Ahmad Abbasi had submitted a written application for case against her on June 1. However, the police stated that after evaluation it was found that the case needed to be investigated by FIA cybercrime. The petitioner was directed to approach the FIA Cyber Crime wing. Earlier, a local court had summoned US blogger Cynthia Ritchie after hearing a petition filed against Ritchie by Pakistan Peoples Party’s president in Islamabad Shakeel Abbasi. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in its response submitted before the court had raised objection to Abbasi’s petition. The FIA stated that Abbasi was not an affected party and sought the dismissal of the petition, which claims that the FIA has not responded to the petitioner’s complaint. In the reply, the FIA argued that according to its rules, only the aggrieved party – the targeted victim or their guardian – can lodge such a complaint with the agency. The agency maintained that Abbasi could not file such a complaint as he was not the affected party of Ritchie’s allegations. The court issued notices to Ritchie and the PTA again seeking their replies on the petition. The court sought Cynthia Ritchie’s response by June 13.
