KARAK (92 News) At least 10 people died, and eight others were seriously injured in a horrific road accident on the Indus Highway near Lucky Ghandaki in Karak district on Tuesday.
According to rescue officials, the crash occurred when a passenger van collided head-on with a speeding trailer, crushing the van and leaving many passengers trapped in the wreckage. Rescue 1122 teams, assisted by local residents, rushed to the scene to extract victims.
The bodies of the deceased were transported to the District Headquarters Hospital in Karak, while four critically injured individuals were shifted to Peshawar for specialised treatment. The injured include two women and two children, according to District Emergency Officer Atif.
All the victims reportedly belonged to Miran Shah. The driver of the trailer, who was also injured in the incident, has been taken into police custody.
This tragic incident has once again raised alarm over poor road safety and reckless driving on the Indus Highway, a route known for frequent and often fatal accidents due to its hazardous conditions.
In a separate incident the same day, two people were killed and over 20 injured when a passenger coach overturned on the Hazara Motorway near Shah Maqsood in Haripur. Among the injured were three foreign nationals.
Authorities have launched investigations into both accidents and called for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and better regulation of public transport to prevent further tragedies.
