55 die as heavy rains, snowfall wreak havoc in AJK

MUZAFFARABAD (92 News) – As many as 55people have been killed due to land sliding after rain and heavy snowfall in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), bodies of 19 victims buried under an avalanche have been recovered in Sargan Bakwali, Neelum Valley.  An operation is underway to rescue the people. The police have confirmed the death of four people. The road link to Muzaffarabad, Leepa Valley, Grace Valley and hundreds of villages has been disconnected. Moreover, Lawari Tunnel has been closed for traffic. A shelter house has been established for the passengers trapped in Chitral. Meanwhile, a rescue operation has been launched to rescue the people trapped in Chaman. Light vehicles have been moved ahead for the operation. A record five-foot snow has been recorded in Mehawdand, Atrore, Gibral, Kalam and Malam Jabba. The administration has warned the people against travelling to Lawari Top.
