16 die as worst urban flooding causes more devastation in Karachi

KARACHI (92 News) – As many as 16 people were killed in different incidents due to heavy rains as the worst urban flooding caused more devastation in Karachi. Nine people, including women and children, were killed when the wall of a shopping mall collapsed at Saima Square. Rescuers recovered all the bodies buried in the debris. Four people drowned in different incidents. All the roads and streets have become rivers and streams. The flood has washed away everything, including vehicles, bikes and heavy containers, on his way. A police van reaching Shahra-e-Faisal to help citizens was also stuck in the rainwater. Rainwater accumulated on all roads from Quaidabad to Kemari and from Orangi and Baldia Town. Water entered in houses in Yousaf Goth. People were besieged in their houses. No official was seen in the worst affected areas. People were shifted to safer places through boats. According to the Met Office, the rains is likely to continue with intervals in Karachi till Friday morning. Several flights were delayed after the runway was inundated by rainwater at Karachi airport.
