KARACHI (92 News) – Law-enforcement agencies have arrested 16 Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) suspects for forcibly collecting Fitra in Rizvia Society neighbourhood in the early hours of Thursday. A spokesman for Rangers claimed that about 1,000 receipts and Rs 31,500 were recovered from the possession of the suspects. The suspects will be taken to the court later today. The spokesman said that addressing a press conference for the people involved in collecting extortion money in the name of Fitra is just like supporting them. He said that they will not let any political or religious party to forcibly collect fitrana. Rangers spokesman asked Karachiites to report any such events on 1101. Responding to the arrest of its workers, the MQM Coordination Committee lashed out at the law enforcement agency for what it termed creating obstacles in the party’s charity activities. “Arresting workers for collecting Zakat and Fitra is an attempt to create hurdles in the way of welfare work and an atrocity on the masses,” the committee said.
