KARACHI (92 News) – Inter-provincial travel has been banned from today from and to Sindh, the government has made a formal announcement on the matter. According to the details garnered, intra-city bus travel has also been suspended in the province, buses, coaches, coasters and public transportation of all sorts has been told to remain off the roads. Meanwhile, most government offices, schools, shopping malls, marriage halls and tuition centres remain closed across the province. Many important decisions have been taken under the chair of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to tackle coronavirus during the meeting. The provincial government has decided to turn Expo Center in Karachi into quarantine center comprising 10,000 beds. This isolation center or hospital will be made with the help of Pakistan Army. The victims’ family of coronavirus patients will be provided one month ration. Core Commander Karachi will assist to prepare and divided ration bags.
3 more virus cases reported in Karachi
Three more coronavirus cases have been reported in Karachi, said Meeran Yousuf, media coordinator for the Sindh health and population welfare minister. According to Yousuf, there are now 211 cases in the province, of which 151 were reported from Sukkur, 59 from Karachi, and one from Hyderabad.
Lockdown
Since the emergence of the first coronavirus patient in late February, the Sindh government put in place preventive measures. Beginning with revising the academic year by preponing summer vacations, it then banned public gathering and set out to close down restaurants, gyms, social clubs etc. The government also closed down all wedding lawns and halls across the province. On Wednesday, the PPP government officially notified the closure of multiple departments as part of sweeping measures to prevent the outbreak. “In pursuance of the Sindh Epidemic Diseases Act 2014, the government of Sindh has decided to close the following departments offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporation of these departments under the administrative control of the government of Sindh through the province with effect from March 19 to April 3,” reads the notification issued by the provincial chief secretary.
