51st martyrdom anniversary of Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed observed
ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The 51st martyrdom anniversary of the great soldier Major Shabir Sharif Shaheed, who defeated India with his exceptional courage and bravery was observed with full devotion and respect on Tuesday.
Major Shabir Sharif Shaheed, was born on April 28, 1943 in Rajput family of Gujarat. His father name was Major Muhammad Sharif. After graduating from Government College, Lahore, Senior Cambridge, he was commissioned in the Army on 19 April 1964.
He received honorary sword from Kakul Academy for best overall performance. As a young Second Lieutenant, he was awarded “Sitara Jurat” and the “Tamgha Jang” for his bravery in the war of 1965.
During the 1971 war, on December 3, he was assigned to the frontier force regiment in the Sulemanki sector for occupying Mukhi Khera and high-rise strategic dams and bridges of Barry. Crossing landmines and the Sabuna canal, repulsed 15 Indian attacks and killed 43 soldiers of the Indian battalion in one hour. He destroyed four tanks and captured 38 Indian soldiers captured and completed the mission.
On the night of 5th and 6th December, Indian Major Narain Singh challenged to fight empty handed, and then Major Shabir Sharif stabbed and killed the Indian Major in a hand-to-hand fight.
The constantly weak and defeated enemy wanted to take revenge on Major Shabir Sharif at all costs and that is what happened. When every tactic and bullet could not resist the courage of Major Shabir Sharif, the bullet fired from a tank of Indian Army crossed the chest of Major Shabir Sharif. The last words were a few moments before he was martyred. Don't let the bridge get in the way.
Major Shabbir Sharif has the distinction of being awarded “Tamgha e Jurat” and “Nishan e Haider” in recognition of his everlasting courage and bravery for the motherland.
