PSL 5 set to kick off from today as 350 artists will perform at opening ceremony
KARACHI (92 News) – The fifth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to kick off from today (February 20) in Karachi, however, 350 artists will perform at opening ceremony.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the Sindh DG Rangers, Senator Faisal Javed, Dr Farooq Sattar and several prominent personalities participated in the ceremony.
The series of matches will bring together the six teams comprising national and international ace cricketers.
The 34-match tournament will be the biggest cricket tournament to take place in Pakistan after the Asia Cup in 2008.
The 34 matches of the T20 tournament will be played in four international venues — Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan. The six-team tournament will be held across four venues with Karachi staging nine matches, Lahore 14 matches, Rawalpindi eight and Multan three matches.
In the opening match defending champions, Quetta Gladiators will take on two-time former winners Islamabad United at the National Stadium in Karachi. The playoffs, including the final, will be played at the Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
The opening ceremony of the tournament will take place at Karachi’s National Stadium, where more than 350 artists will perform at opening ceremony.
The opening ceremony of the PSL-5 will be held at the NSK. Stars like Abrarul Haq, Aima Baig, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Sajjad Ali, Sanam Marvi and rock band Soch will perform at the opening ceremony, according to a press release issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Ali Azmat, Arif Lohar, Haroon and Asim Azhar will perform PSL 2020’s official anthem Tayyar Hain.
Traffic plan for PSL in Karachi
Karachi Police have issued a traffic plan for PSL cricket matches scheduled to be played at the National Stadium. To facilitate commuters, the traffic police have released a comprehensive plan for the upcoming matches in the city. For those heading to the National Stadium to watch their favourite players in action, they can park their vehicles at designated parking spots after showing their tickets and CNIC. Visitors will be provided parking facilities in the notified parking sites, including Urdu University Ground, Gharib Nawaz Football Stadium near Millennium Mall, Expo Center and Rana Liaquat Girls College opposite Aga Khan Hospital Stadium Road.Parking lots and routes
Those coming from central and west districts such as Liaquatabad No 10 can use Hassan Square, take a left at University Road and park their vehicles at Expo Centre. From there, spectators will be taken to the stadium via a shuttle bus.DG Rangers Sindh reviews arrangements for PSL security
On the other hand, Sindh Director General (DG) Rangers Major General Omer Ahmed Bukhari visited National Stadium Karachi (NSK) to inspects security arrangements for PSL season 5. DG Rangers got briefing from the security officials about the arrangements made to ensure foolproof security for the mega event. He also met with the officers and jawans of Sindh Rangers.Schedule
