Asad Umar says coronavirus cases can reach up to one million by end of July

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umar has said that the coronavirus cases can reach up to 1.2 million by the end of July. He was speaking at a meeting of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) held to review the coronavirus situation on Sunday. He said that coronvirus can be avoided by following the SOPs. “Steps are being taken to save the people from coronavirus. We review the coronavirus situation daily. We have repeatedly asked the people to follow the SOPs. We also launched an awareness campaign. Now the administration will take action against the people not following the SOPs,” he said.

He said that coronavirus spread could decrease by 50 percent by covering the mouth alone. “Secondly, keeping social distancing is of equal importance.”

The minister said that they would clamp a targeted lockdown where the number of cases would increase. “We will take the daily testing capacity to 150,000 in the next few days. 30,000 tests are being conducted daily for the last two days,” he added. He said that 500 oxygen beds would be increased in each Sindh and Punjab, while 400 beds would be increased in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “We will have to reduce the pace of coronavirus which would spread at all costs,” he added. Asad Umar said that the government is taking steps for the protection of the lives of the citizens. “The government has been successful in helping the poor in the coronavirus situation. The government will take a strict against the violators of the SOPs,” he added.
