70 drown as boat capsizes in Indus River near Sadiqabad

SADIQABAD (92 News) - As many as 70 passengers drowned when a boat carrying wedding guests drowned in the Indus River near Sadiqabad on Monday.

The passengers included women and children.

Talking to the media, the Sadiqabad assistant commissioner said that so far 19 bodies have been taken out and all of them are women. He said that over 100 people were boarding the boat when it capsized.

He said that a majority of people were rescued by the locals after the accident. "The accident occurred due to overloading. A rescue operation is going on to trace the drowned people," he added.
