73rd martyrdom anniversary of Cap Sarwar being observed today
LAHORE (92 News) - The 73rd martyrdom anniversary of Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, is being observed on Tuesday.
Sarwar Hussain won Pakistan’s highest military award Nishan-e-Haider for his bravery and valor in 1971 war against India. He was the first foot soldier of Pakistan army to receive Nishan-e-Haider after his martyrdom.
In a message on the occasion, Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhary said Captain Sarwar Shaheed's invincible courage and unwavering loyality will forever be an example of determination.
He said his sacrifice for the motherland and Kashmir further strengthens our resolve that we will defend our homeland at all costs.
In a tweet, DG Inter-Services Public Relations Major General Babar Iftikhar said Captain Sarwar Shaheed's matchless chivalry, unwavering resolve & fortitude shall always be remembered.

Born on November 10, 1910 in Sanghori district Rawalpindi, Raja Muhammad Sarwar was the son of Hawaldar Raja Hayat Khan. Raja Muhammad Sarwar was commissioned in Punjab Regiment in 1944. Raja Muhammad Sarwar joined Pakistan Army as sepoy and then joined Pak Army’s Engineers Corps.
He was elevated to Company Commander of Punjab Regiment’s Battalion in 1946 and then promoted to Captaincy in 1947. Sawar hailed from Gujjar Khan area of Rawalpindi. He joined Pakistan army as a driver on September 3, 1966 at a very young age of 17 years.
Despite being a driver, Sawar Hussain Shaheed participated in 1971 war actively and supplied ammunition to army men crawling from trench to trench braving the shelling of guns, tanks and air patrols. His insurmountable courage and unwavering loyalty will forever be an epitome of valiance.
Every bullet he took for country, for Kashmir, strengthens our resolve to defend Pakistan at all cost. He was hit by machine gun fire while fight on the front lines while preventing the enemy soldiers from lying down minefield to target Pakistani side.
He rendered supreme sacrifice for the nation and embraced martyrdom on July 27 1948 at Orhi sector in Kashmir war against Indian Army. He was posthumously awarded first Nishan-e-Haider. In retaliation to attack by the enemy country on Urri Sector of Azad Kashmir on July 27, 1948, Captain Raja Sarwar Shaheed embraced Shahadat during his attack on enemy’s bunkers. Capt. Sarwar Shaheed was the first recipient of Nishan-e-Haider.
