More 80,000 smuggled mobile phones seized from Karachi bungalow

KARACHI (92 News) – The Customs Collectorate Karachi seized more 80,000 mobile phones smuggled by QMobile were seized from a bungalow in Defence on Saturday. Moreover, the authorities have traced three containers loaded with smuggled mobile phones. Earlier on Friday, the Customs Collectorate Karachi had seized 63,000 mobile phones and tablets smuggled by company’s Digicom Trading (PVT) LTD in the name of LED lights. The mobile phone manufacturing company in Pakistan is now in the grip of the Federal Board of Revenue. Sources said that a loss of Rs 103.7 million has been caused to the national exchequer through the smuggling of this container. A case has been registered against company’s directors, including Zeeshan Akhtar. The FBR is conducting raids to seize three others containers. 92 News had aired an investigative report on smuggling and tax-evasion first of all on October 6. According to the FIR, QMobile’s Digicom had smuggled four containers in the name of LED lights. The company had got cleared fraudulently four containers through Green Channel. The worth of seized mobile phones and tablets is over Rs 280 million. The company only paid Rs 94,311 as tax by showing LED lights in the container. QMobile is involved in causing a loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer by getting millions of rupees as income tax refund through bogus claims.
