LAHORE/KARACHI/ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The 8th Muharram processions were taken out in memory of the Youth of Karbala Hazrat Ali Akbar (RA) across the country on Friday. The processions marched towards their stipulated destinations. Mourners reciting ‘Nohas’ beat their chests and self-flagellated at several places. The main 8th Muharram procession in Karachi emerged from Nishtar Park and after passing through its traditional routes culminated at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah. According to traffic police, the procession passed through Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Road, Mehfil-e-Shah-e-Khurasan, M.A. Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street Again M.A. Jinnah Road, Boulton Market, Bombay Bazar, Kharadar, Nawab Mahabat Khanji road to Hussainia Iranian Imambargah. Foolproof security arrangements have been made on the occasion. The mourning processions are being monitored through CCTV cameras. Army, Rangers and police have been deployed with the mourning processions. Meanwhile, the mobile phone service has been suspended partially in several cities, including Karachi. Country-wide security arrangements for the month of Muharram processions have been completed as the federal and provincial governments are putting in their extra efforts to ensure peace and tranquility on the occasion of Ashura. Besides the deployment of police personnel in uniform and civil dress and bomb disposal squads the sweeping scanning and clearing of the designated parking places set up at reasonable distance from procession routes and Majalis venues is also being ensured. The government has imposed a ban on pillion riding in Karachi on Muharram 8, 9 and 10 whereas mobile services will also be suspended on the routes of processions. Emergency will remain in forces in six hospitals of the city, including Jinnah Hospital and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, during 8, 9 and 10 Muharram.
