Accountability court approves one-day transit remand of Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - An accountability court in Islamabad on Wednesday granted one day transit remand to Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif in assets beyond income case.

The PML-N leader presented before accountability court. The NAB requested to seek transit remand of the PML-N leader. The court approved one-day transit remand of Khawaja Asif.

Speaking to the journalists, the arrested PML-N senior leader said that the efforts are being done to create difference in his party and he is facing this case from two years but the bureau did not complete investigation till now.

Earlier, the NAB spokesperson said that the accused will be produced before the court to seek transit remand. It added that he will be transferred to Lahore after transit remand.

The anti-corruption watchdog has continued its investigation against Khawaja Muhammad Asif pertaining the charges of possessing assets beyond income which he did not disclose in his particulars.

Before attaining a public position, the worth of Khawaja Asif’s assets stood at Rs5.1 million which was increased up to Rs221 million till 2008, according to NAB investigators.

A day earlier, the NAB arrested PML-N leader Khawaja Asif in the assets beyond income case. He has been arrested from outside the house of PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal. PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb has confirmed the arrest of Khawaja Asif.

Sources said that Khawaja Asif could not answer to his assets worth Rs 260 million. He will be presented in a court in Rawalpindi for his transit remand. Later, he will be shifted to Lahore on Wednesday evening.
