ISLAMABAD (92 News) In a key development in the ongoing efforts for the repatriation of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, her United States (US) based lawyer Clive Stafford Smith is set to visit Pakistan on May 4, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) was informed on Monday.
During a hearing presided over by Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, Siddiqui’s local counsel, Imran Shafique Advocate, requested a short adjournment to allow for consultations with Smith upon his arrival.
The court accepted the request and rescheduled the next hearing for May 6.
Government representatives, including officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed they had no objections to the revised date.
However, the newly appointed Additional Attorney General, Umar Aslam, was notably absent from the proceedings.
Dr Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani neuroscientist currently serving an 86-year sentence in the US, has long been the focus of human rights concerns and diplomatic discussions.
The case continues to spark debate both in Pakistan and abroad.
