LAHORE (92 News) – Motorway gang rape main accused Abid Malhi’s father Akbar Ali has claimed that his son telephoned the police officials and offered them to arrest him.

The first arrest of the main accused in the motorway gang-rape case remained a problem but now the arrest became a mystery.

It is pertinent to mention here that Punjab Inspector General Inam Ghani claimed a day earlier that Abid Malhi was tracked with the help of his brother-in-law’s cell phone. The father of main accused negated the narrative of the police.

Father Akbar Ali said that he had convinced his son on a telephone call to surrender before police. "After talking to Abid, he called police personnel to come to his house and arrest his son.

Akbar Malhi further appealed to the higher officials to release his daughters immediately who are in custody of police.

A day earlier in press briefing, the IG Punjab revealed how the Punjab police arrested Abid Malhi 33 days after the crime was committed. He had raped and then robbed a woman in front of her children on the Lahore motorway on September 9. He was arrested from Faisalabad Monday night.

“Earlier this week, Malhi had called his family using his brother-in-law’s cell phone which the police tracked. When he came back to his house, the police were waiting for him,” IG Ghani added.

Refuting the claims by the police in the media, his father said that he called on police after his son expressed his wish to visit him at their Manga Mandi house yesterday.

The father, as opposed to how the police explained the arrest, claimed that in the presence of a local noble man, he handed Abid Malhi over to the police himself.
