Court acquits Shehbaz Sharif, Ahad Cheema in Ashiyana Iqbal reference

LAHORE (92 News) - Accountability Court Judge Ali Zulqarnain Awan acquitted former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif in the Ashiyana Iqbal Housing project reference on Saturday.

The court had reserved the verdict after completion of the arguments. The co-accused, including Fawad Hassan Fawad, Munir Zia, Imtiaz Haider, Bilal Qadwai, Sajjad Bhutta and Shahid Mahmood.

In the verdict, the court ruled that corruption allegations could not be proved against the accused. It ruled that the Supreme Court did not stop announcing the verdict as the accused had not benefitted from the NAB amendments.

The counsel for Shehbaz Sharif stated that his client was victimized politically through the reference. "No loss was caused to the national exchequer through the reference," he added.
