ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani expressed his condolences on the tragic death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, foreign minister and others in a helicopter crash in Iran.

The Acting President expressed deep sorrow on behalf of the Pakistani government and people over the death of the Iranian president.

He said that the nation was saddened by the death of the Iranian president and shares grief of the Iranian brothers and sisters equally. “The death of the Iranian president is a great loss for the Islamic world. Raisi was a good man, a scholar and a great friend of Pakistan. With the death of President Ebrahim Raisi, the Muslim Ummah lost a great leader,” he declared.

During a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Mughdam, the Acting President said that Pakistan and Iran have excellent relations based on historical, cultural and literary links. “There is a need to promote public relations and parliamentary exchanges to bring the two brotherly countries closer,” he added.

The Iranian ambassador said that promotion of relations with Pakistan was the main pillar of Iran's foreign policy. “The Iranian supreme leader laid a special emphasis on the development of relations with Pakistan and the late president’s recent visit took place in this context,” he maintained.

The Iranian ambassador thanked the people and government of Pakistan for their condolence messages and sharing the grief of the Iranian people.

Later, the Acting President also entered his condolences in the guest book at the Iranian embassy.
