Afghan govt bars politicians from visiting Pakistan to attend Peace conference: sources

KABUL (92 News) - The Afghan government has barred politicians from visiting to Pakistan to attend a two-day the Pak-Afghan Peace conference, said sources.

It is pertinent to mention here that a two-day Peace conference on Afghanistan is being held in Islamabad on Saturday and the delegations from Afghanistan will start arriving in Pakistan on Friday. The Pak-Afghan Peace Conference will be held from July 17 to 19.

According to sources, former Afghan president Hamid Karzai is willing to visit Pakistan on the invitation of Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan. "PM Imran Khan's efforts to restore peace are commendable. The conference will help restore peace," he said.

"Pleased to have received a phone call from HE Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan yesterday evening. The honorable Prime Minister kindly extended an invitation to me to visit Pakistan to discuss the Afghan peace and ways to improve relations between our," the former president tweeted.

 

 

On Thursday, Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri has said that a two-day Peace conference on Afghanistan is being held in Islamabad on Saturday and the delegations from Afghanistan will start arriving in Pakistan on Friday

Responding to a host of questions during his weekly News briefing on Thursday afternoon, the FO spokesperson said peace in Afghanistan is in Pakistan's interest as any security situation in the neighbouring country has direct impact on our own security.

He said spoilers should not be allowed to exploit any security vacuum in Afghanistan.

Zahid Hafeez Chaudhry said that Pakistan has been hosting over three million Afghan refugees for decades and now it is not possible to accept more refugees.

He said regional economic activity and connectivity are vital for peace and prosperity of the region, which is directly linked with tranquility in Afghanistan.
