TEL AVIV (92 News) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet, after six hours of discussions, approved a ceasefire deal with Hamas on Saturday after over 460 days of conflict, which resulted in the deaths of over 46,788 Palestinians and 110,453 being injured.
Israel's security cabinet had approved the Gaza ceasefire deal on Friday, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office saying the security cabinet has recommended that the government accept the ceasefire deal.
The deal, set to take effect on Sunday (tomorrow), includes the release of 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, along with a phased Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza.
The first phase will last six weeks, with humanitarian aid being allowed into the region and displaced Palestinians returning to their homes.
The second and third phases will involve further hostage releases, a full Israeli troop withdrawal, and the reconstruction of Gaza.
Despite the approval, the agreement has sparked division within Israel’s government, with some far-right ministers opposing it.
It should be noted that the deal, following weeks of tense negotiations mediated by Qatar, the US, and Egypt, aims to end hostilities, but violence in Gaza continues, worsening the already dire humanitarian situation with thousands killed and displaced.
