KARACHI (92 News) – A Karachi accountability court on Friday sent Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani to jail on judicial remand till May 10. Agha Siraj Durrani presented before an accountability court in assets beyond known source of income. During the hearing, the anti-graft watchdog body sought more time to complete corruption probe against the Sindh Assembly speaker. The court asked investigation officer of the case why the bureau required more time to complete the probe. The investigation office said that the inquiry is yet to be completed.
Durrani submits plea seeking B class in jail
The defence counsel submitted a petition seeking B class in jail for his client. “Agha Siraj is Speaker of Sindh Assembly, the NAB should not have any objection over the request,” the counsel said. The court issued notice to the NAB over the request of the accused for allotting him B class in jail. The accountability court adjourned the case hearing until May 10. In the previous hearing, the accountability judge expressed displeasure with the investigation officer for not obeying the court order. The NAB prosecutor said the bureau had changed the investigation officer in the case. Durrani’s lawyer opposed the remand and said NAB hasn’t issued a call-up notice. The court then asked the prosecutor where the notice is. “We remanded Durrani into your custody so you could investigate him,” the court said. The NAB said that it was unable to complete its investigation, which is why it was asking for a longer remand. However, the court remanded Durrani to jail instead. Sindh High Court had also ordered the NAB to wind up its investigation against Agha Siraj Durrani within four weeks. A bench of the high court headed by Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh heard bail petition of Durrani.
