Ahsan Iqbal’s physical remand extended in Narowal Sports case

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – An accountability court has extended the physical remand of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal till Jan 20 in Narowal Sports City corruption case on Monday. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) produced Ahsan Iqbal before judge Azam Khan in court. NAB Prosecutor Usman Mirza adopted a stance that the NAB has to take many records from the accused. According to the NAB sources, the letter will be written to Saudi Arabia government for seeking information regarding the job of Ahsan Iqbal on the base of ‘Iqama’. The NAB prosecutor said that of is it possible, he plead for 90-day remand of the PML-N leader. He also added that he wasted the national treasurer merely fulfillment of his own desires. The prosecutor said that the NAB wanted to interrogate Iqbal’s employment on Iqama, as well as the scrutiny of documents needs more time. He said the misusage of power came under the category of corruption and corrupt practices. The court was pleaded to approve Iqbal’s 14-day physical remand. In the arguments, Ahsan Iqbal’s counsel Barrister Zafarullah opposed the extension of physical remand of Ahsan Iqbal. He said that his client was being summoned in the case by NAB since the last 1.5 years and he has always submitted his response. The counsel said if the expenditures of a project are increased than it cannot be considered as a crime until it went into someone’s pocket. During the hearing, Ahsan Iqbal came into rostrum and declared this case as ‘big joke of Pakistan’. He also raised questions that why only the politicians have to be slaughtered. “They have objection that why this project was built in Narowal,” he maintained. “Is Narowal is part of India or Israel,” he asked from the judge. On the other hand, Ahsan Iqbal wrote a letter to the judge of accountability court. He pleaded to include Prime Minister Imran Khan in the case. He questioned that Kartarpur Corridor was built by more than 17 billion rupees, how they have taken approval and why NAB is silent on the matter? After conclusion of arguments from both the sides, the court approved seven-day extension in physical remand of Ahsan Iqbal and adjourned the hearing till January 20.
