PTI leading with 33 seats in AJK LG elections: unofficial results

MUZAFFARABAD (92 News) - The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is on the first place in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections held after 31 years. 

The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) is at the second place while the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is at the third place.

According to unofficial results, PTI is leading with 33 seats followed by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) with 23 and PML-N with 10. Five independent candidates have been declared successful. 

A fierce fight broke out between two groups in Garhi Dupta Nowshera. In provocation, each other's houses were set on fire. Due to which the Quick Response Force and personnel reached the spot.

In three districts of Muzaffarabad Division, Neelum, Jhelum Valley and Muzaffarabad, the turnout was at 60 %. People came out of their homes to cast their votes despite the bitter cold. A large number of women exercised their right to vote.

In these districts, 2,725 candidates contested for 614 municipal seats – 575 of the PTI, 465 of the PML-N, 545 of the PPP, 113 of the Muslim Conference, 67 of the TLP and 46 candidates of Jamaat-e-Islami. As many as 900 independent candidates also participated in the elections.
