MUZAFFARABAD (92 News) - The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court full court on Thursday upheld the disqualification of former prime minister Sardar Tanvir Ilyas.

During the hearing, SC Chief Justice Raja Saeed remarked that the High Court had shown patience. "Tanvir Ilyas should have been sent to jail on acceptance of contempt of court. The former prime minister had repeatedly insulted courts," he observed.

The chief justice remarked that Tanvir Ilyas was in habit of saying that courts give the stay orders and now he himself had approached the courts for the stay order.

The counsels for Sardar Tanvir said that there was no such judgement in which sentence was awarded in the contempt of court case. "The court summoned him first time and awarded him the sentence. He should have been issued notice if the court was not satisfied with his apology," they maintained.

Earlier, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court Chief Justice Saeed Akram rejected the appeal against the disqualification of former prime minister Sardar Tanvir Ilyas. The court rejected the petition, declaring it incomplete. The objection was raised that the petition did not carry the word 'former prime minister'.

On Tuesday, the High Court had disqualified Sardar Tanvir Ilyas for two years in a contempt case.
