Altaf Hussain calls for severe punishment for MQM worker’s killers, nation-wide protests

KARACHI – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Thursday called for stern punishment for those involved in MQM Information Department official Waqas Ali’s killing. In a statement released by telephone from London, the MQM chief said that the deceased was a true gentleman: well-mannered and respectful towards elders and women. His sacrifice will not go in vain. Also, he appealed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Minister for Interior Nisar Ali Khan, civil society and human rights organizations to take notice of Waqas’s brutal killing. CALL FOR NATION-WIDE PROTEST The MQM is observing day of mourning today (Thursday), and has announced nation-wide protest against Waqas’s killing. It has urged the workers to remain peaceful. Private educational institutes remain closed today (Thursday), with trade and transport only partially active. ‘Unknown armed men’ torched a bus in Korangi area of Karachi earlier today.
