Altaf Hussain says MQM wants a peaceful, fair election in NA-246
KARACHI (92 News) – The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Saturday night said that his party wants a peaceful election in the NA-246 by-election.
Addressing his party workers via telephone from London, the MQM chief said that he was hopeful of a win in the by-poll. “I am sure Kanwar Naveed will win by quite a big margin,” he said. “We want a peaceful, free and fair election in the constituency.”
Tensions are on the rise as the by-election draws near its set date, with major political parties standing against each other in the constituency. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Jamaa-e-Islami are the main contenders of the National Assembly seat that fell vacant after Nabeel Gabol – the former MNA from the constituency - parted ways with the MQM last year.
