Amir Khan defeated in WBO welterweight championship
NEW YORK (92 News) – American Terence Crawford defeated British boxer of Pakistani origin Amir Khan in WBO welterweight championship at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday night.
Terence Crawford successfully defended his WBO welterweight title. The fight ended via technical knockout in the sixth round after Crawford landed an accidental low blow on Amir Khan, whose trainer then decided Khan would not be able to continue.
The fight was stopped and Crawford was named the winner. The win has extended Crawford’s unbeaten record to 31-0 while Khan is now 33-5.
After defeating in WBO welterweight tittle, Amir Khan has issued a grovelling apology to fans and has vowed to make comeback to do what I do best. He has promised to get back with best efforts.
After winning fight Terence Crawford said, “I could tell I was breaking him down,” Crawford says. “It was just a matter of time. I just took my time. I was disappointed the corner stopped the fight in that manner, but Virgil is a great coach, and he was looking out for his fighter. I know he didn’t want to go out like that.”
Over the last few years Terence Crawford has built a reputation as one of the best boxers in the world. For many it is between Crawford and Vasyl Lomachenko in the stakes of who is the pound for pound boxer right now, with the American second to the Ukrainian according to the Ring rankings.
The American has been world champion since beating Ricky Burns in Glasgow in March 2014. The win in Britain earned him the WBO lightweight title before he moved up and won the light welterweight title and unified the whole division before eventually moving up to welterweight.
Crawford took a 34-0 record into his fight with Khan and the 2004 Olympic silver medalist had rather a different route to their fight.

Earlier, British Pakistani boxer Amir Khan has stunned the world after his return to the ring lasted less than a minute as the Briton knocked out Phil lo Greco in only 40 seconds in Liverpool.
In his first fight in nearly two years, Khan announced he is still in business with his quickest professional win in a welterweight contest that was scheduled for 12 rounds at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.
“I was a little nervous, but I am back with a big bang,” Khan, 31, said and added “I want to become a world champion this year or next year.”
Khan’s focus after the light middleweight bout turned to Kell Brook, who was ringside, with the Bolton fighter saying Brook had been “living off his name”.
