Amjad Sabri’s funeral prayer to be offered today

KARACHI (92 News) – The funeral prayers of famous sufi singer Amjad Farid Sabri will be offered on Thursday (today) in Karachi’s Liaquatabad area and will be buried in the Paposh Nagar graveyard alongside his father Ghulam Farid Sabri. The funeral prayer will be offered in the afternoon at 1pm at Liaquatabad Road. Ahmad Dewan Masood of Pakpattan Shrine will lead the funeral prayers. Pakistan's best-known Sufi musicians, Amjad Sabri, was shot dead by unknown assailants riding a motorcycle in Karachi on Wednesday (yesterday), triggering an outpouring of grief. Sabri, aged around 45, was travelling by car from his home in the city's eastern Korangi area to a television studio, when a motorcycle pulled up alongside the vehicle and the attackers opened fire. Sabri was hit by five bullets and was declared dead at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital while a companion, named as a relative, Saleem Sabri, was in critical condition. The killing of the sufi singer has left many questions in the minds of the people. Amjad Sabri began singing at the age of nine and his first public performance was with his father when he was 12 years old. On the other hand, the law enforcement agencies have completed geo-fencing, while an investigation team has been formed and sketch of attackers have also been made. Sabri’s murder prompted an outpouring of grief across Pakistan and around the world for a man hailed as one of the best performers of Qawwalis, from prime minister Nawaz Sharif to ex-cricketer turned opposition politician Imran Khan, and a host of cultural figures. The musician came from a dynasty of legendary performers, and was known for reworking classics popularized by his father and uncle. He regularly appeared on national television, and had been performing daily for Ramazan.
