KARACHI (92 News) - Anti-encroachment wing operation to demolish illegally constructed houses, shops, and other structures along the Karachi's drains enters second day on Thursday. According to the details garnered, the anti-encroachment drive is currently underway in New Karachi Zero Point Gujjar Nalla and Cafe Pyala in Gulberg. The people who encroached along the nullah area in Gulberg have become an obstacle in the operation. The residents blocked the road as the traffic was suspended in area. On the first day, illegal wall, footpath, 11 shops and sheds were demolished on Gujjar nullah. 63 illegal constructions and encroachments were also demolished from Gujjar nullah near Cafe Pyala. The illegally constructed structure falling under 105-foot limit of the drains are being demolished. It is worth mentioning here that the survey would be conducted at three spots in Karachi’s central district to identify the illegal constructions. The survey of government departments stated that most of the storm water drains in Karachi have been encroached with illegally constructed houses, shops and other structures. These encroachments have pivotal role in impeding free flow of the rainwater causing urban flooding and immense damage to the city, in case of a catastrophic spell of rainfall, like the one recently hit the port city.
