Appointments of ECP members: Senate chairman received letter from PM

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani has received a letter from Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan regarding the appointments of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) members. According to the reports, the Senate chairman will hold important meeting with National Assembly (NA) Speaker Asad Qaisar on Monday (December 2) to discuss matter pertaining to appointments of ECP members. Both the leaders will discuss the strategies in the light of the prime minister’s letter. Meanwhile, the opposition has announced to file a petition in the Supreme Court on Monday for delaying the appointment of the ECP members. On the other hand, the Prime Minister’s Office had raised objections on the names recommended by Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif for the appointment of CEC. The suggested names were Nasir Mehmood Khosa, Jalil Abbas Jilani and Akhlaq Ahmed Tarar. PM Khan also suggested three names each from Sindh and Balochistan for their nominations. From Sindh, he had recommended Justice (rtd) Sadiq Bhatti, Justice (rtd) noorul Haq Qureshi, Abdul jabbar Qureshi while from Balochistan, Justice (retd) Dr Faiz Kakar, Naveed Jan Baloch and Amanullah Baloch. Earlier, the letter by PML-N president also comprised three names each from Sindh and Balochistan for their nominations as the ECP members. From Sindh, the opposition leader had recommended Nisar Durrani, Justice (retd) Abdul Rasul Memon and Aurangzeb Haq. The names of Advocate Supreme Court Shah Muhammad Jatoi, former advocate general Muhammad Rauf Atta and Rahila Durrani were also proposed from Balochistan.
