Arbab Alamgir, Asma indicted again in corruption reference
PESHAWAR (92 News) – An accountability court has once again indicted Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Dr Arbab Alamgir and his wife Asma Alamgir after removing the part regarding foreign properties from the reference.
Dr Arbab and Asma appeared before accountability court as it heard a case against them for owning assets beyond known sources of income.
The court, after hearing the arguments of both the sides removed the part regarding foreign properties from the reference against the PPP leaders.
The reference earlier filed by the NAB against the couple mentioned foreign properties. The court has also summoned five witnesses of the case at the next hearing of the case.
The NAB had filed a reference against the couple for allegedly accumulating assets worth Rs332 million which were beyond their known sources of income.
NAB said in its probe that it surfaced that the suspects accumulated movable and immovable assets including a house in G-11/3 Islamabad; 10-kanal land at Mauza Shah Alladitta, Islamabad; a bungalow in F-7/2 Islamabad; prize bonds; a land rover vehicle and several bank transactions.

It is worth mentioning here that the NAB had filed a reference against the couple for allegedly accumulating assets worth Rs332 million which were beyond their known sources of income.
Accountability court Judge Muhammad Ishtiaq heard the case and Dr Arbar and Asma appeared before court. During the hearing, both the PPP leaders were indicted after the respondents concluded their arguments. The court summoned four witnesses on January 24.
“Our properties belong to our ancestors and have been in the family for the past 200 years,” Dr Arbab said while talking to the journalists after the hearing. “I also informed NAB about the properties that are not in my name,” he added.
On the occasion, Asma termed NAB a joke and said, “A reference was filed against us but not against former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Pervaiz Khattak.”
