RAWALPINDI (92 News) – DG ISPR Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor has said that the Army will have no direct role in the elections. Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, he said that it is responsibility of the Pak Army to provide peaceful environment for the elections. “It will be the third election of the democratic continuity. The people will take forward the democratic process on July 25. We have to assist the elections only,” he added. The DG ISPR said that there will be no interference in the election process. “It is responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan to conduct the elections,” he maintained. He said that the Army was also deployed in the elections in the past. “We will inform the ECP wherever any anomaly was witnesses,” he added. Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor asked the people to vote for their candidates without any fear. “If 100 votes are placed in a ballot box, as many number will come out,” he said. He said that deployment of the Army will be completed three days before July 25. “Two each jawans will be deployed in and out of a sensitive polling station. It will be responsibility of the jawans inside the polling station to stop outsiders,” he said. To a question about aliens, the DG ISPR said that the Pak Army is Khudai Makhlooq (God’s creature). “The people mentioning General Faiz Hameed do not have knowledge of his work.” He said that a case against Iqbal Siraj was pending with the Agriculture Department. “No ISI representative was involved in the matter. The jeep being given the political colour is not ours,” he added.
