Army men among six martyred in Lahore suicide blast
LAHORE (92 News) – At least six persons including four army men were martyred and several others injured in an apparent suicide blast targeting a van carrying census team in the provincial capital’s Bedian Road on Wednesday.
As per details, the suicide blast targeted a van carrying census team in the provincial capital’s Bedian Road near Manawala Chowk, which left six persons including four army men martyred and several others injured.
Law-enforcement agencies reached at the spot and cordoned off the area.
Rescue teams also reached the spot and shifted the bodies and injured to local hospitals, where the injured people were given medical assistance.
Law enforces have collected evidence from the spot and started investigation.
Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over the loss of lives.
Meanwhile, Corps Commander Lahore Lieutenant General Sadiq Ali said visited the blast site and inquire after the health injured soldiers.
On the occasion, he pays tribute to martyrs of census van attack, adding that the census team has sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Corps Commander Lahore Lt Gen Sadiq Ali went on to say that the operation against terrorists will continue.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while condemning the attack expressed sympathies with the bereaved families. He also prayed for the departed souls.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah also confirmed the details that the census team was the target of the blast.
The minister said that the terrorists are being trained in Afghanistan.
Today's incident is the second terrorist attack in Lahore in less than two months.
On February 16, a suicide attack at a protest demonstration near Punjab state assembly killed 13 people including 2 senior police officials and injured more than 80 others. Jamat-ul-Ahrar, a splinter faction of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) had claimed responsibility for the attack.
There was no initial claim of responsibility for the explosion, which some television stations initially said had been caused by a gas leak.
