Pak Army continues rescue, relief operations in areas hit by rain, snowfall

RAWALPINDI (92 News) – Pakistan Army continues its rescue and relief operation in rain and snow-hit areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Balochistanon Wednesday. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan Army’s rescue and relief operations are underway in the affected areas of Neelam Valley, Gilgit and Balochistan. The ISPR also said that army helicopters are delivering relief goods, tents, blankets, rations, medicines and prepared food to the victims.   Military personnel, the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) and the civil administration are taking joint steps. Meanwhile, blocked Karakoram Highway and Jaglot Skardu Road at Pattan, Matta Banda, Shatial, Tatta Pani, Hunza ,Sost, Morkhoon, Khunjerab and Dambudas have been restored. ISPR said that portions of N50 and N25 at Khan Mehtarzai and Lakpass Tunnel in Balochistan have also been cleared. Earlier, three villages were badly affected after another avalanche collapsed in the Neelum Valley. In the Sargan Valley, five more bodies were recovered. The death toll due to heavy rains and snowfall has touched 73. Several people are still missing. Over 200 houses have been destroyed by the devastating rains across Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The Pak Army and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) are busy in the rescue activities. Heavy snowfall is continuing in Gilgit-Baltistan, Skardu, Astore, Upper Dir, Chilas, Abbottabad and adjoining areas. Locals have been restricted to their houses due to the rain and snowfall. Road links could not be restored so far. Skardu has so far received up to five-foot snow. Work is going on to remove snow at Skardu airport. On the other hand, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) spokesperson said that all-out efforts will be made for the rehabilitation of the affected people.
