Asad Umar urges public to celebrate Eid with simplicity

PESHAWAR (92 News) – After meeting of NCOC in Peshawar, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar urged public to celebrate Eid with simplicity and conduct sacrifice in a manner that does not result in spread of the virus.

Talking to the journalists, the minister said that the coronavirus is still a threat and it should be treated as such. "Strict implementation of SOPs and precautionary measures will ensure that Eidul Azha passes without causing a major spike in new cases," he added. Asad Umar further said that Eidul Azha is an important occasion but it is our responsibility to practice precautions in order to protect ourselves and those around us.

On the occasion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister (CM) Mehmood Khan said that SOPs have been formulated in public interest to save the lives of the people, they should be followed strictly. He also urged the public to celebrate Eid with simplicity, just as all ministers and members of the KP Assembly will.

On the other hand, the number of recoveries from COVID-19 continue to increase across the country with 241,026 patients so far recovered from the disease. According to the latest statistics, 1,176 new coronavirus cases were reported in the country during the last 24 hours taking the tally to 274,289. These include 118,311 in Sindh, 92,073 in Punjab, 33,397 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 11,601 in Balochistan, 14,884 in Islamabad, 1,989 Gilgit-Baltistan and 2,034 in Azad Kashmir. Meanwhile, 20 patients died of the virus during the last 24 hours taking the death toll to 5,842. 22,056 corona tests were carried out during this period.
