Ashraf Ghani lauds Pakistan’s efforts for peace process in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for peace process in Afghanistan. He was talking to Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi in Islamabad on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, the foreign said Pakistan will continue playing its role for peace in Afghanistan with sincerity, good intentions and open heart. He also said Afghan people have suffered a lot due to the instability prevailing in Afghanistan for decades. FM Qureshi said Pakistan always emphasized on result-oriented talks believing that this is the only way to establish durable peace in Afghanistan. The minister expressed confidence that the Afghan President’s visit to Pakistan will bring the two countries closer and strengthen bilateral relations. The two sides agreed to implement the already decided strategy of peace and brotherhood for betterment and welfare of the peoples of the two countries. They exchanged views to enhance bilateral economy, trade and investment and promote cooperation in communications, energy, culture and people to people contacts. It is pertinent to mention here that the Afghan president visited on the invitation of Prime Minister Imran Khan for strengthening ties between the two countries. Upon arrival, Ghani was received by Adviser to PM for Commerce, Textile and Industry Production Abdul Razak Dawood. Ghani along with his ministers, advisers and a business delegation was invited for the visit by Prime Minister Imran Khan. The honourable guest was given the 21-gun salute welcome. The Afghan president is scheduled to travel to Lahore, where he will address the business community and pray at the Badshahi Mosque. It is pertinent to mention here that Afghan President Ashraf Ghani visited Pakistan back in 2014 to participate in the Heart of Asia Conference, held in Islamabad. The visit becomes doubly important after the first Afghan peace conference titled ‘Lahore Process’ held on June 22 in Bhurban Murree. More than 50 delegates, including heads of all Afghan political parties and the political advisor to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, attended the moot. Former Afghan warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, senators and members of Afghan parliament are also in attendance.
