Asma Murder Case: Suspect confesses to killing minor girl

PESHAWAR (92 News) – The suspect arrested in the rape and murder case of four-year-old Asma in Mardan on Wednesday confessed to killing the minor girl. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Mardan Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dr Mian Saeed said that suspect 15-year-old Muhammad Nabi was a relative of the deceased. The Mardan RPO said that the accused strangled death the minor girl for trying to scream. He said that a friend of the accused was also taken in custody and investigation was underway. Dr Saeed went on to say that the fingerprint traces of the suspect were found on the neck of the Asma. Earlier, the DNA sample collected from the remains of the body of minor four-year-old Asma had matched with the DNA of one of the suspects. Asma was found dumped in a sugarcane field near her house in Mardan on January 14 after she went missing on an earlier day while she was playing outside her house located in Gujjar Garhi area of Mardan. Later, a forensic report of the crime confirmed that she was raped before being killed. Further details of the match, investigation and the culprit will be provided to the KP government and police officials. DNA samples - including blood and hair - of 145 locals within 2-3 kilometers radius of incident place were taken for cross matching by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police.
