Assets beyond income: NAB gives Shehbaz last chance to appear on April 22

LAHORE (92 News) – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday has given last chance to Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif to appear on April 22. In a statement, the bureau declared the inquiry of the former Punjab chief minister as compulsory. It also added that the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) president is not cooperating with the investigation officer regarding references against him. According to the NAB, Shehbaz Sharif was not appeared before the body on April 17 and he was issued notice of appearance on April 22. It also said that adequate precautionary measures are being taken in NAB office against coronavirus social distancing. The NAB warned the PML-N of using legal way if he will not cooperate in the probe. A day earlier, the NAB again summoned Shehbaz Sharif on April 22 in assets beyond means case. The anti-graft watchdog body has summoned the PML-N president and assured him of adequate precautionary measures in NAB office against coronavirus. The summon notice also states that inquiry in assets beyond means case is in last phase and questioning Shehbaz is very important. Earlier on April 17, Shehbaz Sharif has said that he cannot appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) due to the lockdown in the city. In a written reply to the NAB, he said that he was thoroughly investigated during his detention in the custody of the NAB. “During the investigation, I provided all required information to the NAB. I appeared before the NAB and replied to all questions whenever I was summoned,” he stated. The opposition leader said that it was pity that his replies to the call-up notice were declared incomplete and unsatisfactory. “My all assets are declared and the relevant record is with me. I am 69 and a cancer patient and as a result, my immunity is very weak,” he said. Shehbaz Sharif said that doctors have stopped him not to go out during the epidemic. He demanded that his appearance before the NAB should be deferred till the end of the lockdown.
