Assistance will be provided to ECP for conducting fair election: ISPR

RAWALPINDI (92 News) –The Pakistan Army announced on Wednesday that mandated assistance will be provided to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for conducting free, fair and transparent 2018 general election. Inter Service Public Relation (ISPR) Director General Maj General Asif Ghafoor tweeted that the army will assist the ECP in the polling exercise. He said that the army chief directed that this national duty be performed with utmost responsibility and without losing any focus on defence and internal security challenges in hand. This was discussed in the 211th Corps Commanders’ Conference chaired by General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff, held at army’s General Headquarters. The ISPR director general said that the Forum reviewed geo-strategic environment and recent security and other related developments in the region. He also said that Forum decided to continue contributing positive efforts to carry forward dividends of achieved domestic peace and stability beyond borders to the region. Maj Asid Ghafoor also said that progress of operation Raddul Fasaad and socio-economic development in cleared areas was also deliberated with commitment to achieve lasting peace and stability. “Mandated assistance to ECP will be provided for free, fair & transparent conduct of GE-18. This national duty [will] be performed with utmost responsibility and without losing any focus on defence and internal security challenges in hand,” he tweeted. Earlier, the Defence Ministry has agreed to provide 350,000 troops for election duties as requested by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had requested deployment of 350,000 military troops for the upcoming General Election 2018, which is scheduled to be held on July 25.
