LAHORE (92 News) - An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday extended judicial remand of Abid Malhi, main accused in the Lahore motorway gang-rape case for 15 days.

It is pertinent to mention here that a woman was raped in front of her children by two unidentified men on the Lahore-Sialkot motorway on September 9. The case has rattled the country and reignited the debate on whether capital punishment should be fixed for rapists or not.

Jail authorities produced the suspect before the court as it resumed hearing.

During the hearing, the main accused complained to the ATC judge that he was not being allowed to meet his wife and children inside jail. The court directed the authorities concerned to allow the suspect to meet his family members.

Earlier, the police arrested Abid Malhi, the main culprit of the Motorway rape case, from the house of his father in Manga Mandi. He had been shifted to Lahore for interrogation.

Punjab Minister Information Fayyazul Hassan Chohan and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Political Communication Shahbaz Gill have confirmed the arrest of Abid Malhi.

Fayyazul Hassan Chohan said that Abid Malhi had been interrogated and he would be presented in court soon. "The accused will be punished according to the law," he added.
