ATC rejects Imran Khan’s petition to quash terrorism sections

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday rejected the petition of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s petition challenging the jurisdiction of court to hear the four cases filed against him and argued to drop terrorism charges against Imran Khan. The ATC Judge Shahrukh Arjumand resumed hearing of the cases. The PTI chairman appeared before the court for the fourth time today. The court summoned Imran Khan to appear before it on the next hearing to be held on 19th of this month. The ATC has also extended the bail of the PTI chairman till that period. The court had reserved the verdict on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s petition earlier in the morning. In the previous hearing, Babar Awan, the counsel of PTI had challenged the jurisdiction of ATC to hear the four cases filed against Imran Khan and argued to drop terrorism charges against Imran Khan. He also gave reference of ending the cases registered during the sit-in to which the judge remarked that the cases against protesters were not withdrawn and the accused are still seeking bails. The ATC had also extended the interim bail of PTI chairman Imran Khan till December 11, 2017. After hearing the counsel representing Imran Khan, the Judge Shahrukh Arjumand extended the interim bail till December 11, 2017 (today). In August 2014, when PTI and PAT supporters tried to storm the Prime Minister’s house using cranes to remove barricades, violence broke out. Violence between the police and protesters led to 3 dead and 560 injured. 77 of the injured individuals had been security officials deployed in the Red Zone.
