Avenfield reference: SC issues notices to Nawaz, Maryam & NAB prosecutor

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court Registrar Office on Saturday issued notices to Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and the NAB prosecutor in the appeal against suspension of their sentences by the Islamabad High Court in the Avenfield reference. The notices have been issued by for November 6. Meanwhile, a special bench has been formed to hear the appeal of the National Accountability Bureau. Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Mohammad Safdar were released from Adiala jail after the Islamabad High Court suspended their respective sentences in the Avenfield corruption reference. On July 6, the accountability court had announced the verdict in the Avenfield properties corruption reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau, handing the ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif 10 years as jail time for owning assets beyond known income and 1 year for not cooperating with the NAB. His daughter was given 7 years for abetment after she was found "instrumental in concealment of the properties of her father" and 1 year for non-cooperation with the bureau.
