Avenfield verdict against Sharif family challenged in IHC

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar on Monday challenged the Avenfield verdict against Sharif family in Islamabad High Court (IHC). As per reports, assistant lawyer of Khawaja Hairs filed the appeals of Sharif family against the Avenfield verdict in IHC. In the petition, It has been requested to the court that the Avenfield verdict should be announced null and void regarding their imprisonment, fine, disqualification and confiscation of property. The petitioner also pleaded that all the three accused should be released on bail till the announcement of final verdict and their conviction should be suspended temporarily. The appeal further said that the charge sheet of Nawaz Sharif has also been attached with the plea which adopts stance that contradiction exists between supplementary and interim references. It added that no notice of supplementary reference has been sent to Hassan and Hussain. The petitioner mentioned that the prosecution has failed to prove any accusation whereas Accountability judge declare punishment without fulfilling the Law of justice. Apeaking to the journalists, former information minister said that all the lawyers rejected the Avenfield verdicat as they challenged the decision of the Accountability Court for suspending the verdict. According to the sources, the appeals of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Cap (r) Safdar likely to be heard tomorrow (ON Tuesday) in IHC. Earlier, NAB court sent Captain (r) Safdar to Adiala Jail amid tight security. Safdar’s name was also placed on the black list, which means he would be barred from leaving the country. On Friday, Accountability Court-I judge Muhammad Bashir awarded the 11-year rigorous imprisonment to Nawaz with £8 million fine, while his daughter Maryam Nawaz was awarded eight-year imprisonment with £2 million fine.
