BURBANK (Web Desk) Marvel Studios has officially announced that production for Avengers: Doomsday is underway, marking the beginning of a highly anticipated new chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The announcement was made during an electrifying five-hour livestream, watched by millions, where the film's vast and star-studded cast was unveiled.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday will feature a thrilling ensemble of returning and new characters, including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, and Robert Downey Jr. making his surprising return as Doctor Doom. Also joining the cast are Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who will play the Fantastic Four.

In a move that delighted fans, the X-Men team will also return, with Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler. Other key characters include Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, and Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova.

However, some big names were missing from the cast announcement, such as Spider-Man’s Tom Holland, Hulk’s Mark Ruffalo, and Scarlet Witch’s Elizabeth Olsen, raising questions about their future involvement in the MCU’s grand multiversal saga.

Avengers: Doomsday, releasing on 1 May 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, marks one of the MCU's most ambitious events, with the Russo brothers returning and a star-studded cast.
