Awareness campaign from Isd on Aug 14 to make Pakistan clean and green: FM

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said the government is going to kick off country-wide awareness campaign starting from Islamabad on August 14 to make the environment clean and green. "I wish the foreign ministry that is usually sensitized with the international norms and standards for environmental protection should start the campaign from itself." Addressing a ceremony 'Plastic Free Pakistan' at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs  in the federal capital, the minister said the campaign initiated by the foreign ministry would be followed by others including citizens as well, adding the joint effort will help make Pakistan better, clean and green. Qureshi said foreigners visiting have come across heaps of garbage along the roads would avoid visiting the country again, adding climate change had a big challenge for the ministry. "Pakistan is situated a region vulnerable to a region and according to international experts either we will be facing a drought situation or will be coming across the flood situation, leaving the country's economy devastated." He said its time for the climate change ministry to get people involved in awareness campaign that should be run to sensitize people about hazards of polythene bags. He said the youth have to champion this cause as they can bring change in every sphere of life. Qureshi said a campaign of giving up use of polythene bags is going to be started from 14th of this month in Islamabad, which is a great initiative. Minister of State for Climate Change Zartaj Gul on the occasion said the government is taking various measures as part of the Clean and Green Pakistan campaign.
