Azhar Ali selected as new ODI captain: PCB chairman

LAHORE (92 News) - Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan on Monday announced batsman Azhar Ali as the new ODI captain and vice-captain of the Test team. Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Shaharyar Khan also announced Sarfaraz Ahmed as vice-captain of both, ODI and T20 teams. He said Misbahul Haq will retain the position of Test captain while Shahid Afridi will remain the captain of T20 team. The PCB chief said team’s selection is only made on merit and no quota system will run in the team. He confirmed Haroon Rasheed as chairman selection committee, adding that selection committee will comprise of Saleem Jaffar, Azhar Khan and Kabeer Khan. Shaharyar Khan praised Misbahul Haq, Shahid Afridi and Younis Khan’s contributions for Pakistan cricket.
