Bans placed on mass transit, wedding ceremonies, indoor & outdoor gatherings in Punjab

LAHORE (92 News) - The cabinet committee on coronavirus in Punjab has banned mass transit, wedding ceremonies, indoor and outdoor gatherings and other recreational activities on Monday.

It is pertinent to mention here that the restrictions will be imposed on cities of the province where coronavirus positivity rate has reached 12 percent or higher.

After Punjab COVID-19 situation worsens, the provincial government tightened restrictions across the province to control the coronavirus spread, especially in Lahore.

Speaking to the journalists after the meeting, CM Punjab urged people to take precautionary measures and wear face masks otherwise violators of government guidelines will be fined heavily.

CM Buzdar announced the new restrictions at a press conference. Under the new restrictions, outdoor dining and public transport in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and a number of other cities. Restaurants can only keep takeaway and delivery open, while all shops will close at 6pm.

No ban has been placed on economic activities. Strict compliance, however, has to be observed with the standard operating procedures.

Buzdar urged the masses to show responsibility to follow the SOPs given by the health authorities. “We cannot control the pandemic without help from the masses.”

The cabinet committee on coronavirus in Punjab has banned outdoor dining and public transport in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and a number of other cities.

The following cities reported a coronavirus positivity rate of more than 8%: Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Okara, Gujranwala, Rahim Yar Khan, Sheikhupura, Multan, Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha, Sialkot and Toba Tek Singh.

The restrictions will come into force from April 1 and will remain in place until April 11.
